Garcinia indiсa, also called kokum, is an evergreen tree reaching 15 meters, bearing juicy fruits with dark seeds inside. Each fruit contains 5-8 seeds. It is a plant of the Clusiaceae family, a species of the Garcinia genus that grows in the evergreen forests of southwestern India. It is cultivated in small quantities on the Antilles, Mauritius, and Reunion.

Suggested use and dosage for adults: Shake well before use. 20-30 drops (1 ml., one full squeeze of dropper), up to 4 times a day or as directed by your practitioner. The best way to use liquid herbal tinctures is to put the suggested amount in a glass of water, tea, or juice and drink the entire contents. Tinctures can also be administered directly into the mouth without the assistance of water however some tinctures are unpalatable which is why most people prefer to dilute them into a beverage.

What is Kokum / Garcinia (Garcinia indica)?
Garcinia indica is a tropical fruit tree of western India, and its fruit is known as kokum. It belongs to the family Clusiaceae. The part used here is the fruit, specifically the rind. Kokum is a much-loved culinary ingredient in Indian cooking, where the dried fruit is used as a souring agent - similar to the way tamarind is used - in drinks such as kokum sherbet and in curries. It is also called wild mangosteen. It is worth knowing that Garcinia indica is a different species from Garcinia cambogia (described below). Our extract is offered in two forms - a traditional alcohol-based tincture and an alcohol-free glycerite - each from ethically sourced raw material. This is a whole-fruit liquid extract that carries the fruit's natural spectrum of constituents, not an isolated or standardized single-compound product, and we label it clearly by botanical name and plant part. Please read the safety note below before use.
What is the difference between the tincture and alcohol-free versions?
Both are liquid extracts of the same Garcinia indica fruit; only the solvent differs. The tincture uses alcohol as the traditional solvent, with vegetable glycerin and water. The alcohol-free version is a glycerite made with vegetable glycerin and purified water, suited to those who avoid alcohol. Both deliver the fruit's constituents in a convenient liquid you take by the drop. Choose the tincture for a classic alcohol-extracted format with a longer shelf life; choose the glycerite if you prefer no alcohol.
Is this the same as Garcinia cambogia, or kokum butter?
No to both, and these are the two most common points of confusion. First, the species: our product is Garcinia INDICA, the kokum fruit. It is a different species from Garcinia cambogia (also called Garcinia gummi-gutta or Malabar tamarind), which is the Garcinia commonly sold as a dietary supplement - ours is the culinary kokum, not that species. Second, kokum butter: kokum butter is a solid fat pressed from the seeds of the kokum fruit and used in cosmetics and cooking; our product is a liquid extract of the fruit rind, not the seed butter. Kokum is also known as wild mangosteen. We label our product clearly by botanical name (Garcinia indica) and plant part (fruit) so there is no confusion with Garcinia cambogia or with kokum butter.
How do I use Kokum / Garcinia liquid extract?
Shake well before use. Adults take 20-30 drops (approximately 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper) in 2 oz of water, tea, or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by your practitioner. See the safety note below. Drink the entire contents.
Is Kokum / Garcinia extract right for everyone? Safety and storage.
Please note a few safety points. Some Garcinia products - especially concentrated Garcinia cambogia dietary supplements - have been associated with liver problems. As a precaution, do not use this product if you have a liver condition, and stop using it and consult a physician if you notice any signs of liver trouble, such as unusual fatigue, abdominal pain, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Garcinia may also affect blood sugar, so use caution if you have diabetes or take blood-sugar medication. Do not use during pregnancy or while nursing, and do not use it for prolonged periods or in high amounts. If you take any medication or have a medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use. Keep out of reach of children, and do not exceed the suggested serving.
